Aviation | 199 | Here in the Florida Kissimmee Bay Country Club sub-division (KB), we are fortunate to be able to witness space vehicle launches
from the Kennedy Space Center (KSC) at Cape Canaveral! Our line-of-sight distance to KSC is just 49 miles. During the 1981-2011
space shuttle program there were a total of 135 launches and I recall seeing many of them from my KB front yard! For all of us
who lived in KB during the time, we became accustomed to hearing a "window rattling" double sonic BOOM BOOM as space shuttles flew
overhead on their return to KSC. I witnessed the very last shuttle launch on July 8, 2011 from a Jetty Park Florida vantage point
just 12 miles away from KSC.
